Our patients say it best…
Every month we receive warm, wonderful letters of thanks from former patients, their families and friends. We thank them for taking the time to praise the excellent care they received, for telling us about their recovery and for sharing their “SimpleCare Experience” with us, which we in turn share with you here.
"A male English nurse recently recommended I join the SimpleCare Health Plan as I had no private medical insurance.
Thank goodness I did!
I unexpectedly needed a hip replacement operation and from SimpleCare's list of surgeons and clinics, I chose Dr. Alf Newhaus and the Santa Elena Clinic. Both were an excellent choice and I cannot recommend them highly enough.
SimpleCare handled the financial side quickly and efficiently, and obtained a really considerable discount for me, I saved 1,500 euros on the prosthesis and over 5,000 euros on hospital and surgical fees with a total saving of more than 6,500 euros! Their Dr. Prats even visited me in hospital!
Anyone without private medical insurance simply must join the SimpleCare Health Plan."
This is to let you know how much of a benefit my Simple Care membership has been. I visited my neurologist recently ( 29/04/2011)
and the cost of this visit was 127 euros, but with the use of the Simple Care membership my final cost was 27.89. that was a saving of 100 euros.
The same weekend ( 1/05/2011) I had to go to emergency for severe conjunctivitis and the cost with the use of my simple care card
was only 30.20. This emergency physician sent me to see the ophthalmologist on Tues ( 3/05/2011 ) and his cost was again without
my Simple Care Card would have been 100 euros, but I paid only 27.89.
In both of these later cases, the charge without using my Simple Care membership would have amounted to over 100 euros in each case.
I'm very thankful to have been introduced to Simple Care.

"I had been experiencing some problems in my lower back area for some time, which was becoming increasingly more debilitating. I was in conversation with SimpleCare and this subject came up, and they suggested that I go for an ultrasound at the new Chip Hospital in Malaga, and the appointment was duly made. Two days later I attended the hospital, which has its own under-ground parking, (a necessity in a busy city like Malaga) and was escorted throughout the whole procedure by a charming hospital administrator who spoke perfect English.
I only waited about 15minutes before being taken into a very spacious room for the ultrasound, and the results were handed to me after 20minutes, with the diagnosis. The cost was 31Euros, (£27.40) against a price of 110Euros. An incredible saving.
When we left the hospital our garage ticket was franked, so we did not even have to pay for parking. The hospital is very bright and spacious, ultra modern, and the staff friendly and efficient. I hope I do not need hospitalisation whilst living here on the Costa, but if it became necessary I know that I would be in very good hands if I was sent here.
Thank you Simplecare for providing such an excellent medical system, where we can get the best of treatment for a fraction of the cost.

For me, living and working in Spain has, without doubt been a truly enriching experience. Absorbing the culture, learning the language and making new friends have all provided memorable milestones on what has been a wonderful voyage of discovery and personal fulfillment. And when it came to learning Spanish, gauchely fumbling along with my error-strewn, faltering phrases was all part of the humiliating but hilarious adventure.
Except, that is when it came to my health. Ordering meatballs and getting pork chops is one thing, but when you’re sitting in front of a doctor trying to describe the symptoms of a serious illness, you need to know that the physician in front of you understands precisely what you are telling him. You also want to be sure that your doctor knows what he is doing. This may sound a facile point but when you have lived overseas for as long as I have – in Thailand, Vietnam and China for the last 15 years – this is not something you take for granted.
And so it was that after a seeming eternity of indestructibly rude health, I recently fell ill with a urological infection. This was also the time I quite coincidentally made the acquaintance of Dr Raymond Prats, the director of SimpleCare. Through the course of our (unrelated) discussions, the issue of my health problem came up. Having listened to my concerns about finding a doctor who could understand me and who I could trust, Dr Prats suggested I give SimpleCare a try.
So I did.
And I can honestly tell you it was one of the best decisions I have made in a long while. The way it works is very simple. First you become a member of SimpleCare, which you can do online in a matter of minutes. Within a few days, you will receive your membership card. It doesn’t matter if you have had a previous condition; they take everybody.
Being a SimpleCare member brings you two major benefits. First it gives you access to the best specialists and doctors in the private health sector. The peace of mind you get, knowing that your health is in qualified, capable hands is immeasurable.
The second benefit – and this is really important when you consider that health-care costs can often be prohibitive when you “go private” – is that being a SimpleCare member qualifies you for huge savings on your hospital and medical bills. SimpleCare can do this because, as a large US based company, they are able to leverage the prices usually only available to the big insurance companies. When I paid my bill, I asked the lady behind the desk how much it would have cost me if I hadn’t used my SimpleCare card. Amazingly, the price of my consultation and treatment would have been almost triple.
As for the doctor; I can say with hand on heart that Dr Sanz, the head urologist in the Clinica Premium in Marbella – recommended as the best urologist in the South of Spain by SimpleCare – was consummately professional, sympathetic, attentive and – not least, bilingual. Indeed, even the nurses on reception spoke pretty good English. The whole experience was very reassuring.
In summary; I don’t speak great Spanish and I am not certainly not familiar enough with the Spanish public health-care system to navigate the maze of its variable quality. What I need is to be able receive excellent health-care without losing the shirt off my back.
SimpleCare has enabled me to do that. And the peace of mind that brings is truly priceless.
Dear Dr. Prats,
I am writing to thank you for the concern shown, and the prompt assistance you gave me when I contacted Simplecare in such a distraught state due to the dreadful treatment shown to me by the Costa Del Sol hospital after my serious accident in January. When I rang you in severe pain and distress after being turned away by the hospital, it was only minutes before you rang me back, advising me that Dr Seirra from Hospital Santa Elena was waiting for me and would immediately see me. Within 2 hours I was in surgery with what the surgeon advised me was a very serious injury, which should have been operated on within 2 hours of being sustained.I cannot imagine what the consequences would have been without you prompt help.I received wonderful treatment, which is still ongoing and will probably
continue for a year.
Below are the events as they happened:
On January 26th I fell downstairs about 8pm. I was taken to the Costa Del Sol Hospital by my husband. I had obviously badly broken my wrist, and a bone was protruding. I was seen briefly by a doctor, then told to wait. After waiting almost 4 hours We sought out the doctor who told us he had been very busy. The Xrays showed what he said was the worst damage he had ever seen. He plastered the wrist and said the hospital would be in touch with me in several days.
The next morning after an agonizing night, I returned to the hospital because my hand was black and extremely swollen. When the nurse saw it she said “Madre de Dios”. Unfortunately, after again waiting several hours without attention, and in agony I had to beg a nurse to cut off the plaster. Eventually 2 doctors came to see me, and both shook their heads, saying it was the worst damage they both had ever seen to a wrist. In agony not having been given proper painkillers, I begged them to help me and operate at once. They then tied a bandage round their waist, and each of my fingers and tugged (as the doctor had done the night before. This shouldn’t have been done as they knew the bones were fragmented, not just fractured. I pleaded for help offering to pay privately if necessary to alleviate my pain. They just shrugged, and said I would have to wait until the following Tuesday as they were busy. That would be 6 days after the injury was sustained.
Again I was sent away and told come back on Tuesday 1st February at 7am, which I did after a further 6 days of terrible pain. I was taken to a bed, undressed and a drip was put in. I was told I would be operated on before 3pm. Not one person came near me from that time until 3.15 pm, except when my husband at 11.30 went to find a nurse to give me a painkiller, as the pain was terrible. At 3.15pm a doctor came into the room and told me they had finished operating for the day, and I should go home and come back in 8 DAYS. That would be 15 days since my severe accident!! I had to ask twice for the drip to be removed. Now it was 4pm. I was told I must wait another hour for my medical papers. At this, in tears and severe pain, I just got up and walked out of the hospital. THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY INHUMANE TREATMENT. A dog wouldn’t be treated like this! I reached home at 5pm, having lain alone awaiting an operation that I didn’t get for 10 hours in the hospital.
The next morning I contacted SimpleCare in desperate pain and was advised to immediately go to Santa Elena Hospital, SimpleCare called ahead to the emergency department and they were waiting for me. I was seen right away by Dr Seirra the orthopeadic specialist who took one look at my injury, and I was taken immediately for surgery. I was told the operation should have been performed within 6 hours of sustaining the injury. The operation took over 2 hours as against usually 20 minutes. I was kept in the hospital for 4 days and was given heavy doses of antibiotics to deflect any infection which the delay may have caused. I have 10 pins in my wrist, and 1 plate which will all have to remain permanently. I was concussed, and my face was totally black, I am still being treated by my surgeon and as of yet I am unable to start physiotherapy as the bones still are not healed. I have had to pay for all this private treatment, and as a 76 year old this is not easy fortunately we had SimpleCare. This is sheer negligence and lack of care by the "Costa Del Sol Hospital", I strongly suggest everyone have a back-up in private health coverage so my horror story doesn't happen to you! with SimpleCare I saved approximately 70% on my hospital fees. As soon as I am well enough I will take legal action against "COSTA DE SOL HOSPITAL" for negligence.
I would like to thank SimpleCare for everything they did and continue doing and the discounted rates on my hospital fees I received being a member, also Santa Elena Hospital and staff also Dr Seirra. I highly recommended all of them.

To whom it may concern;
We joined "Simple Care" last year mainly to use their Laboratory service located in Premium Clinic to draw blood which they then sent to my main care giver at the US Naval hospital in Rota Spain. There was a great savings of more then one hundred euros plus the effort of driving for two and one half hours each way.
In February I had a stroke and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Marbella Spain. At this time my wife Jocelyn called Dr.Prats of "Simple Care" and was advised to have me taken to the Santa Elena hospital in Torremolino Spain because the staff their are very professional in the treatment of strokes and heart operations. "Simple Care" and Dr.Prats were available at all times to assist where necessary during two major operations and a three and one half week recovery.
One of the greatest advantages of being a "Simple Care" member is the fact that our total bill was reduced by a very large percentage which is a great gift to us senior citizens. Plus the fact that Dr.Prats and his team were standing by twenty four seven to help where needed.
It gives me great pleasure to recommend "Simple Care" and thank them for being available to help me and my family during a time of great need.

My first contact with Simplecare was with Dr. Prats who then organized all my procedures with Dr. Alf Neuhaus and Dr. Sierra for three procedures on my back and spine.
We were collected at Malaga and proceeded to accommodation which Simplecare provided for both myself and my wife, the next day we were taken to the excellent Santa Elena Hospital where all pre op tests were done and the surgery was done in the afternoon, I was discharged from the clinic two days later by which all pain in my leg was gone, we then went back to resort for post operative treatment where each day we were visited by Dr.Prats and Dr. Neuhaus and to see how I was recuperating. Simplecare also sent a Physiotherapist who was very good and patient, my recovery is ongoing and I am now enjoying my new found mobility.
I have saved about 60% of the cost of my procedures and also the hospitality and expertise of the surgeons and their staff, I cannot thank them enough.
I would recommend Simplecare and their excellent and professional surgeons for any medical procedures necessary.
Just a quick note expressing my gratitude.
“I have found the entire experience at SimpleCare to be a unique combination of exceptional quality and affordable health care. The physicians at Santa Elena Hospital are well trained, with superior diagnostic skills, and the staff is warm and congenial and ready to help with translating if needed. Before joining Simplecare I was paying 120 euros for my orthopeadic consultations, now I only pay excess of 28 euros! I highly recommend SimpleCare if you are looking for private affordable health care.”
To my new friends at Simplecare World Health:.
I am looking forward to a full recovery from surgery for a serious clavicle injury, and the normal use of my arm. My quality of life has improved dramatically. I received immediate attention no U.S. doctor I found would give me. I did my research and emailed my x-rays to Simplecare, who promptly telephoned me directly. I was given several choices of locations and surgeons, I selected Santa Elena Hospital in Malaga and Dr Neuhause as my surgeon. His assessment and recommended procedure was in agreement with mine – going beyond what any U.S. doctor was willing to discuss. Imagine making a serious decision for surgery with one phone call!
No surgery is easy, but having full confidence in Dr. Neuhause it made every step of my recovery endurable. Unlike my experience in the USA, I felt that the patient came before the money. There was not a moment that my every need was not attended to, my every question or concern not addressed and always with a smile.
My work puts me in contact with many people who think the USA has the best healthcare. The expertise and professionalism I experienced from everyone at Simplecare from the operating room at Santa Elena Hospital dispelled any anxiety I may have had about obtaining help outside the USA, especially when the advice I received from US doctors was “live with it” and I knew I could not.
The staff at Simplecare was there for me every step of the way, including not just recommending but making arrangements for affordable, restful lodgings and prompt transportation, and willingly attending to my personal needs.
As for the price, I saved no less than 50% of what I was being quoted just for surgery? these savings made it affordable for me. In the long run I have paid less and had less hassle and paperwork than with any insurance company.

I am writing to commend the treatment I have received from Dr. Gonzalo Sanz and his team at Premium Clinic. I am a 70-year-old prostate cancer patient who came to Dr. Sanz in January for a second opinion diagnosis and treatment evaluation. I had heard your adverts on Talk Radio and was thinking of joining, when I checked out your SimpleCare web site, and found that Dr. Sanz had joined your provider list thats when I made my mind up to join your health scheme. So in a sense, he was a self referral. From that first meeting in January to the surgery, early in April to the post operative meeting this past Monday, I have been treated in a manner that one could only hope for. He has been thoroughly professional, detailed and patient with me. This along with his record of training and actual practice experience made my decisions to go forward with the surgery, very easy and comfortable. The results and my recovery have been remarkable. His patients are the ones who really matter but everyone with prostrate cancer considering surgery should also hear from his patients about the extraordinary care this doctor has provided. He will be an easy referral if any of my friends or acquaintances need his special skills using your health plan. Dr. Sanz and Premium Clinic are a tremendous asset to Simplecare and the community. I am most grateful to Simplecare, for sure.
